Her doctoral thesis was on "The Role of Language in Shaping Identity: A Study of Selected Indian English Novels".


Meenakshi Raman started her teaching career as a lecturer in English at Lady Doak College (LDC) in Madurai in 1984. She worked there for 10 years until 1994. She then joined PSG College of Technology (PSGCT) in Coimbatore as a reader in English in 1994. She was promoted to professor of English in 2000. She served as the head of the department of humanities and social sciences at PSGCT from 2002 to 2008. She also served as the director of PSG Institute of Management (PSGIM) from 2008 to 2010. She moved to IIMI as a professor of communication in 2010. She is currently the chairperson of the postgraduate program in management at IIMI.
